Don Russ and other members of the Patriot Guard Riders show their support at the funeral service for Marine Lance Cpl. Philip Martini Wednesday in South Holland, Illinois. Martini was killed earlier this month by small arms fire in Iraq. The Patriot Guard Riders are a group of motorcyclist who serve as an honor guard at military funerals and provide a barrier between funeral goers and members of the Westboro Baptist Church of Topeka, Kansas who often protest military funerals carrying signs with slogans such as "Thanks God for Dead Soldiers." Illinois, along with 24 other states, have drafted laws limiting protests near funerals in response to a series of protests nationwide by members of the Westboro church at military funerals.
