Which made me briefly look through the list of US State Mottos in an attempt to come up with something truly ironic, and all I got was that a lot of them are strange; Or they are dumb, or they are strange and dumb:

- Puerto Rico: "Juan es su nombre" ("John is his name")
- Maryland: Fatti maschi, parole femmine (Manly deeds, womanly words)
- Maine: Dirigo (Latin, I direct)

When I lived in Idaho in the late '80s it was "Famous Potatoes".
And it was against the law to obscure, or creatively modify, the motto in any way.
