Granted, this averages over weekends, so you'd expect the maximum to be something like 70%, but there are way less people working at a business at any given time than I would have guessed, and somehow this feels wrong. Or maybe it's very impressive, depending on how you think about it.

Paging through them feels like I'm getting tomorrow's nostalgia today, and it creates this desire in me to somehow to go out and photograph a bit of what I walk past every day, what might be thought of as blight or an eyesore, and frame it in some artful way poetic shot. Dance a bit about architecture, if you will. Stop and smell the smokestacks.

What does a Great Depression for the relatively wealthy look like? If you spend lots of your budget on "luxuries" -- especially durables -- it is easy to postpone their consumption. This might cause gdp to fall more rapidly than if people were poorer. If you are spending most of your money to eat and stay alive, and a negative shock comes, you have to work harder to make up the difference.

Edward Tufte might appreciate this Modern Mechanics article on the Psychology of the Instrument Panel; Here is a graph relating the motion of a dial versus how long it takes to set it ("primary movement" = coarse adjustment, "secondary movement" = fine adjustment). The curves are way too smooth to be real, but I can believe the trend well enough.
